Highland Brewing, Asheville North Carolina
The First and Possibly Asheville’s Finest Brewery
How does a revolution begin and how does it decide where to start? Of course craft beer has been around for centuries, but never such as a culmination as you’ll find in Asheville, NC. In the mid 90’s and early 2000’s Asheville’s renaissance with the likes of John Cram and Oscar Wong was becoming very apparent. Cram invested into the arts, and others were soon to follow. Barley’s Taproom boasted brews from around the world, while Mr.Wong was in the basement brewing the future of Asheville. The first time I went downstairs, I was simply amazed by how they got those mash tuns in that space! It was an engineering marvel! There wasn’t an inch to spare in the 12,000 sqft space, but the beer was flowing and people from all over were enjoying the rich fresh beer being brewed just beneath their feet.
