The Legendary Green Man has existed for centuries, but it’s no myth that he’s been brewing great beer in Asheville since 1997. We are consistently recognized for our internationally loved traditional English styles and creative versions of the newest craft trends. As Downtown Asheville’s oldest brewery and tasting room, we developed the first sour program in the area and produce some of the beer scene’s most iconic ales for many years. Green Man brewers strive to bring innovative and exciting new flavors to all beer-loving folks.
From Asheville’s first to one of Downtown Asheville’s largest tasting rooms, our storied growth has brought us to a whole lot of awesome. The latest addition to our growing footprint in Asheville’s South Slope Neighborhood is our state of the art packaging hall that can be seen from our third story. This area also features an indoor/outdoor taproom loft that overlooks the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. When you visit, make sure to visit the original tasting room Dirty Jack’s, as well as enjoy the new Green Mansion all located on the same block of Buxton Avenue.

HISTORY
Brewing award-winning ales since 1997, Green Man was founded in downtown Asheville, originally as a brew-pub. In 2010, new ownership and a fresh approach spurred evolutionary change at Green Man. No longer a brew pub, Green Man was able to focus on production, distribution, and growth. With the help of the original brewer, John Stuart, and his team, Green Man has evolved into a respected and well-known brewery, known for traditional ales and impressive specialties with a keen eye for quality and consistency.
Green Man is now available in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and Tennessee with its well known Porter, IPA, ESB, Wayfarer IPA, Lager, and Trickster IPA!

WHAT IS A GREEN MAN?
A Green Man is a sculpture, drawing, or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves. Branches or vines may sprout from the nose, mouth, nostrils or other parts of the face and these shoots may bear flowers or fruit. Commonly used as a decorative architectural ornament, Green Men are frequently found on carvings in churches and other buildings (both secular and ecclesiastical). “The Green Man” is also a popular name for English public houses and various interpretations of the name appear on inn signs, which sometimes show a full figure rather than just the head.
The Green Man motif has many variations. Found in many cultures around the world, the Green Man is often related to natural vegetative deities springing up in different cultures throughout the ages. Primarily it is interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, or “renaissance,” representing the cycle of growth each spring. Some speculate that the mythology of the Green Man developed independently in the traditions of separate ancient cultures and evolved into the wide variety of examples found throughout history.
ESB
A malty amber ale boasting rich toasted and caramel flavors, Green Man ESB is one of our award-winning signature brews. Our blend of authentic British malts and hops creates a nutty aroma, full body, and a sweet finish. Prepare yourself for a truly exceptional interpretation of a traditional English style.
IPA
Green Man India Pale Ale is delectably hoppy with a properly balanced body. Generous hop additions give it a wonderful bitterness and pleasant floral nose, while our combination of traditional British malts creates a rich, satisfying flavor and alluring copper color. This authentic English-style IPA is our flagship ale.
Porter
Dark, full-bodied, and rich in flavor, Green Man Porter is wonderfully easy to drink. It offers a creamy, smooth mouthfeel and finishes with distinctive chocolate notes. This traditionally crafted, award-winning British-style Porter, like a true rock star, enjoys a legendary following.
Trickster
This unfiltered tropical fruit forward IPA gives off notes of pineapple, peach, and watermelon. Smooth with medium bitterness and just enough malt backbone to support the hops. Brewed with pale malt and dry hopped with 2lbs. per barrel of El Dorado, Mosaic, and Simcoe.
